moses - wisdom in the wilderness
July 19, 2020 | AJ Hupp
Everyone goes through wilderness seasons in their lives, but MOSES was a wilderness expert! From 40 years alone in one wilderness to 40 years of leading Israel through another, his story shows us the power of the journey through the wilderness; it shapes us, develops us and forms us into the people God has called us to be. A look at the life of MOSES reveals that the wilderness isn’t something we just endure; it’s something we can embrace!
Wisdom in the Wilderness
Psalm 68:5-6 (NKJV) God is a father of the fatherless, a defender of widows; God sets the solitary in families.
1 Corinthians 4:15-16 (NKJV) For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.
Exodus 18:9-10 (NKJV) Then Jethro rejoiced for all the good which the Lord had done for Israel, whom He had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians. 10 And Jethro said, “Blessed be the Lord, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh, and who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.”
1.Celebrate victories
Exodus 18:12 (NKJV) Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and other sacrifices to offer to God. And Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.
2. Invest in their life
Exodus 18:14 (NKJV) So when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did for the people, he said, “What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit, and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”
3. Find out the why
Exodus 18:17 (NKJV) So Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.
4. Speak the truth
Exodus 18:19 (NKJV) Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you.
5. Speak wisdom
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
