Everybody loves a good comeback story, and one of the greatest of all time is David at Ziklag. In one day, he lost it all—his family, his home and his possessions. It was the greatest setback he had ever experienced. But by applying David’s response to our own situation, we can see how to turn the setback into THE COMEBACK!

Step 1: Release

Hebrews 13:7 (ESV) Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.

1 Samuel 30:1-4 (ESV) when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid against the Negeb and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fire 2 and taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They killed no one, but carried them off and went their way. 3 And when David and his men came to the city, they found it burned with fire, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. 4 Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep.

1. EMBRACE your emotions

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4 (ESV) For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven … a time to weep … a time to mourn.

Isaiah 53:3b (ESV) a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

Hebrews 4:15 (KJV) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the FEELING of our infirmities.

2. ELEVATE your emotions

Psalm 30:5 (NKJV) Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

2 Samuel 5:23-24 (NKJV) Therefore David inquired of the Lord, and He said … 24 And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
