FAITH looks at the life story of Abraham through the lens of his faith. Hebrews 11 says Abraham acted “by faith” 3 different times, and more is written in the faith chapter about him than any other person in the Bible. Join us this summer as we study the life, character, and faith of someone Romans 4:11 calls the “father of faith.”

Faulty Faith

Genesis 12:10-13 (GNT) “But there was a famine in Canaan, and it was so bad that Abram went farther south to Egypt, to live there for a while. When he was about to cross the border into Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “You are a beautiful woman. When the Egyptians see you, they will assume that you are my wife, and so they will kill me and let you live. Tell them that you are my sister; then because of you they will let me live and treat me well.

Faith

Hebrews 11:6 (GNT) “No one can please God without faith”

Faulty Faith

Genesis 12:1-3 (CEB) “Leave your land, your family, and your father’s household for the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation and will bless you. I will make your name respected, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, those who curse you I will curse; all the families of the earth will be blessed because of you.”

Genesis 12:10a (CEB) “When a famine struck the land, Abram went down toward Egypt,”

James 1:6 (NIV) But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) “For we walk by faith and not by sight”

1. Readjust your eyes

Hebrews 12:2a (CEV) “We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete…”

Hebrews 12:2a (ESV) “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith,”

Matthew 14:29 (NET) Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water, and came towardS Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink,

2. Remember He is Faithful

2 Timothy 2:13 (ESV) “If we are faithless, He remains Faithful; for He cannot deny Himself”

Psalms 103:2-5 (NLT) Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

3. Reconnect to the Promise

Genesis 12:2-3 (NLT) “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

Numbers 23:19 (NLT) “God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that he should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfills”.
